Our Mission

Fathomland Imaginary Society creates memorable communal experiences centered on human-made artistic efforts.

We celebrate quality, human-driven and crafted art-ing, while acknowledging the creative benefits of digital and computer-assisted tools.

We focus our efforts on:

  • Bringing together emerging filmmakers, artists, and crafters, with seasoned professionals, with an emphasis on craft.
  • Creating opportunities for engagement, discussion, feedback and critical thought.
  • Celebrating story, imagination and character — with a healthy dose of special effects.
  • Seeking out films, art, and other that are curious, original and on the fringe.
  • Making the unseen seen, the unspoken speeched, and the unknown even more obscure.

Our History

Fathomland Imaginary Society was incorporated as a British Columbia non-profit society on August 19, 2026. It was created to bring people together around imaginative, human-made projects and to build communal experiences in which art is experienced, discussed and remembered together.

Fathomland is broader than any single festival or event. Its purpose is to foster, support, present and promote artistic programs, festivals, works, events and forums, and to encourage public interest, understanding and participation in the arts.

Our First Project — Fathomland Film Festival 2026

A festival for the strange, the handmade, and the deeply imagined.

The inaugural Fathomland Film Festival gathers cinematic worlds that bend reality, chart impossible futures, and bring the inanimate to life. Across four nights in Vancouver in 2026, the festival celebrates hard science fiction, magical realism, Philip K. Dick, and the tactile wonder of puppets and stop-motion animation.

The festival brings together independently submitted and curated films, emerging filmmakers and established professionals, with an emphasis on craft, conversation, imagination and the shared experience of watching films together.
